Famous For: McClintock was born to physician Thomas Henry McClintock. she studied botany in university. McClintock discovered transposition to show how genes are the reason for turning physical characterisics off or on. McClintock became a famous cytogenetics (studies the stucture of chromosone material) and won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1983. McClintock was the first and only woman to win and not shared prize from that category.
Fact: McClintock was awarded the National Medal of Science by Richard Nixon (the 37th presedent of the United States) in 1971.
